Thomas Cottage is the self-contained cottage adjacent to Thomas Grove House. Sitting in a stunning elevated position, facing south over the valley towards Brotherswater and the great cliffs of Hart Crag in the far distance, the cottage is situated in the heart of the village next to our neighbours’ working sheep farm, and set back above the narrow village lane that leads up onto the high fells. The views from the cottage are truly wonderful.

A stone path leads to the entrance door at the rear of Thomas Cottage, leading into a hallway with room to store and dry your walking gear, and offering secure access to the housekeeper’s utility room with full laundry facilities whenever required. A door through to the main room, once the large farmhouse kitchen of the Thomas Grove estate where farmworkers would take their meals, and now a generous and comfortable kitchen/sitting/dining room, with reclaimed kitchen units from earlier times. The room is furnished with handsome antique pine furniture, comfortable sofa and chairs, contemporary lighting, Scandinavian wood burning stove, worn and beautiful original slate flagstone floors and kelim rug. The stunning views can be enjoyed from the kitchen table, sofa and window seat through south and east facing windows.

The painted timber staircase leads to two bedrooms: a spacious king size double with panoramic southerly views over the fells, and a room that offers either twin beds or a generous super king size double, with lovely views to the easterly mountains. A bathroom on the half landing has bath with drench shower over, basin, and WC.

Thomas Cottage has its own garden area with outdoor table and chairs, and in the driveway shared with Thomas Grove House, ample parking for two cars.

There is TV/DVD (basic Sky channels), iPod dock, landline phone (no mobile reception at the house), and limited broadband sufficient for surfing and email. Due to bandwidth, downloading is not possible.
