Car from the North
Take M6 Junction 40, then westerly on A66, and take A592 down the side of Ullswater. Two miles or so south of Patterdale on A592, there is a little turning left up into Hartsop, with a finger post marking the village.
Car from the South
Take M6 Junction 36, then A590 to Kendal, A591 to Windermere, and A592 to Penrith and up over the Kirkstone Pass. As you drop down into the valley after the Kirkstone Pass, you drive pass Brotherswater on your left, and there is a turning right up into Hartsop on a bend, with a finger post marking the turning.
Train either to Windermere (20 minute drive) or Penrith (35 minute drive). Penrith is safer in the winter months because you don’t have to drive up over the Kirkstone Pass to arrive at the house. Buses from Penrith station to Glenridding, run 3 miles from the house all year round, and there is a local taxi service which can be booked from there. Buses from Windermere station run April-November and will drop you at the lane into the village, five minutes walk from the house (check internet for bus timetable details).
In the village
Drive up into the hamlet. Once amongst the houses, ignore the first metalled turning on the left with a sign to Willow Cottage. Continue just a little further, and there is an un-metalled farm track turning to the left. Swing round and up to the left, and there you will find the wooden gate to Thomas Grove House and Thomas Cottage. Park in the shared driveway (there is room for two cars for each property), and walk round to the entrance doors at the back of the house. Thomas Cottage is the first blue door; Thomas Grove House is at the end of the path.
Keys to each property are stored in a key safe located by each entrance door at the back of the house. The combinations will be supplied prior to your visit.
